Wellspring Festival: We just got back from the Wellspring festival in Wadebridge. We had an awesome time. The boys in the band already went down to camp on the beach (in the rain) a few days ahead, so Dave and I hired a big white van to take the stuff down (Dave loved being a white van driver). On the way down we had prayed about the fold backs, that there would be enough for us, and that we would be alright with less rehearsal time than usual (because of the insane camping trip). Over the week I had an increased sense that we should not be striving, but rather always seek to be servant hearted, which feels weird when you are in a band, and you always feel this need to strive to be noticed. But nevertheless we prayed that God would show us how! So we arrived at our venue, with an hour slot to sound check, the boys turned up 30 mins into it, we have 2 tiny fold backs in a really noisy tent...
I played one cord, on my guitar, and my strap fell off, guitar crashing to the floor, I picked it up, and as I started to tune it, a string breaks, there are only half the microphones there, so I announced that it was time to pray! We were reminded again that we were only here for the Lord and whatever purpose he had, and to serve others. So, Dave re-strung my guitar and we got on with the sound check. The sound guys walked off for a while to talk with the venue hosts leaving us to rehearse our entire set in this tent on our own! Awesome! So the sound guys come back a while later: "Uh, Deborah, the bad news is, that the venue is flooded, and you can't play here... the good news is that the only other place for you to play is the mainstage!"
So we rock up at 10pm to the main stage, where there are 2 big fold backs per person, the sound is crystal clear, we have a massive stage and enormous screens filming the whole thing! It was amazing! Phil got out his "proper sticks" we cranked or amps up and rocked out till the cows went home (literally there was a sound curfew, I think it was an agricultural showground!)
We had the best time, and as we were coming home it reminded me of the verse I'd read that week:
Luke 14: 7-11
7When he noticed how the guests picked the places of honour at the table, he told them this parable: 8"When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honour, for a person more distinguished than you may have been invited. 9If so, the host who invited both of you will come and say to you, 'Give this man your seat.' Then, humiliated, you will have to take the least important place. 10But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, 'Friend, move up to a better place.' Then you will be honored in the presence of all your fellow guests. 11For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."
It's amazing when God challenges us to trust him, He shows himself trustworthy, dependable and is teaching us, like the good father that He is!
Hallelujah!
